Description

Savory is a small, perennial aromatic herb belonging to the Lamiaceae family.
It grows to a height of 20 to 30 cm.

It blooms during the summer.

Its nectar-rich flowers grow in clusters and are white during the summer season.

Savory seeds from Satureja are small, fine, and brown in colour.

- Uses:

An Essential Mediterranean Species

Savory seeds, available from Ethnoplants, allow you to cultivate an aromatic plant with a fine scent, halfway between thyme and white pepper.
A true ally for biodiversity, this nectar-rich herb attracts pollinators while acting as an effective natural repellent against aphids and other garden pests.

Gastronomic Excellence and Pot Cultivation

A must-have in the kitchen, Savory enhances meats, grilled dishes, and vegetables, and remains the traditional herb used to flavour fresh goat's cheeses.
Its easy cultivation, whether in open ground or in a pot on a balcony, makes it an ideal choice for gardeners wishing to grow their own fresh, authentic herbs.

- Germination, sowing of seeds:

  • The ideal period to sow savory is from May onwards.
  • Sow the seeds in small 10 cm pots in groups of 3.
  • Use a fine, highly draining substrate made of sand and potting soil. Do not bury the seeds.
  • Water the setup gently using a hand-held spray bottle.
  • Finally, place the setup in a warm and humid location at a temperature of at least 20 to 25°C.
  • Germination will take place 2 to 3 weeks after sowing.

Finally, transplant the seedlings once they reach 10 cm in height into a very sunny spot.
