Description

Paulownia is also called Imperial Tree, or Anna Pavlovna's tree, in honor of Princess Anna Pavlovna, daughter of Tsar Paul I of Russia. It belongs to the Scrophulariaceae family. It is a majestic species native to Asia.

Its growth is extremely fast, reaching 1.50 meters in height in the first year and 3 meters in the second.

During its period of rapid growth, its leaves can measure 60 cm long by 40 cm wide. They are soft and very large, and they smell like popcorn when crushed.

Its blooming is very beautiful; the flowers are mauve-purple and bell-shaped. Their scent is reminiscent of violets, and they appear before the leaves in early spring.

- Uses:

Its wood is prized in the furniture industry due to its lightness and strength. The wood is easy to work with, making it an ideal material for manufacturing furniture, flooring, and other decorative elements. Its fine texture and aesthetic appearance allow for the creation of unique and elegant pieces.

It plays an important role in restoring degraded ecosystems. Thanks to its rapid growth and ability to absorb large quantities of CO2, it is often planted to fight climate change. Furthermore, its deep roots help prevent soil erosion, while its leaves provide shade, thus promoting the regeneration of other plants.

Finally, it is also used in traditional medicine, particularly in Asia, for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. The tree's flowers are sometimes used to prepare beneficial herbal infusions.
Do not consume without medical advice from a healthcare professional.

- Cultivation and Planting:

  • Initially, plant the Paulownia quickly in a 4 to 5-liter pot using a high-quality horticultural potting soil.
  • Firm the soil well around the base of the plant.
  • Water thoroughly.
  • Place it in a semi-shaded area for a few days to gently acclimate it to its new environment.
  • It is also possible to plant it directly in the ground.

- Soil Type:

This is a tree that grows very easily in any type of soil as long as it is not too compact.

- Light Requirements:

Its need for sunlight is high; it should be planted in a very bright location.

- Growing Location:

The Anna Pavlovna tree is extremely hardy; it withstands freezing temperatures as well as intense summer heatwaves.

- Irrigation:

To ensure rapid growth, the Kiri needs plenty of water during its first 3 years whenever a lack of moisture is felt.
