Description

Griffonia, also called Griffonia simplicifolia in Latin, is a climbing plant from the Fabaceae family, like indigo tree or orchid tree.
It is originally from Africa, more precisely from Ghana.

This plant generally measures 3 meters in height.
It produces green flowers which subsequently give black pods including Griffonia seeds which are harvested for medicinal consumption.
These are used in herbal medicine for their high concentrations of 5-HTP.
5-HTP is a natural acid that produces serotonin.
Serotonin plays a very important role in the human body, it is a neurotransmitter which acts directly on the neurons of the nervous system.
It has the ability to regulate mood.

Griffonia is an effective natural alternative to antidepressants, like cocoa or St. John's wort.
It also treats depression, anxiety and mood disorders.

The ideal time to sow Griffonia seeds is in June and July when temperatures are warm enough.
Prepare a box of substrate made from previously moistened peat.
Place the seeds on the edge, point down without covering them with substrate.
Water gently with a hand sprayer.
Finally, place the culture in a greenhouse at a temperature close to 30 to 35°C.

Germination of this seeds will generally begin 3 to 6 weeks after sowing in a greenhouse.

Once your seedlings are 10 to 15 cm high, transplant them to a semi-shaded location in moist soil.

African plant seeds to grow indoors or in a mild climate.
